In keeping with their ongoing commitment to help increase Bronx student enrollment in NYC specialized schools,  The Riverdale Children’s Theatre in will be holding a free audition workshops for all Bronx students auditioning for the Performing Arts High Schools. Students who sign up will receive free training sessions to help improve their chances of gaining admission to NYC Performing Arts High Schools that require auditions. Our team will give the students tips for a strong audition, help pick out audition material and prepare the students for what to expect at the auditions.  “I know many kids from across the Bronx will benefit from the help in preparing for these difficult auditions.“ said RCT Executive Director Derek Woods. ”Many Bronx kids have not had access to strong arts programs in their neighborhoods, or simply cannot afford hiring an acting or  vocal coach. This is an opportunity that will try to even the playing field and hopefully increase their chances to gain entrance into these specialized schools.”    

    The first session will concentrate on the audition process and school requirements, along with song and monologue selection. Students should bring a monologue or song to work on. Students who are unsure of their material will be given recommendations to work on. The students will also be coached on the melodic patterns, rhythmic patterns, and improv portion of the auditions. Successful applicants from past years will be on hand to answer questions about the audition experience.
